"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."

No Make Up Selfies: The Debate

Hi, is anybody there ? (apologies for the mistakes, it's 00:50 and i'm still French)

Right, so, i've been reading a lot of interesting articles, tweets and Facebook statuses about the whole "no make up selfies" thing and I just wanted to voice my own opinion. I don't tend to publicly share things like this, but what the hell ?

I'll be honest with you, I find the idea absolutely great. For several reasons:

1) Awareness: whether we like selfies or not, this idea/campaign allowed women to talk about the breast cancer. it's in the papers, on social networks, in conversations you've overheard in the tube. Friends share thoughts about it.  Each selfie may not lead to a donation (you don't buy a product every time you see an advert, do you ?!), that is absolutely right. But it'll stay in the back of people's mind. If at least it makes women remember that they need medical check, that's positive. If the aim was to make some noise, then, it's worked. BOOM.

2) Marketing: a charity has a purpose, a cause, like any other company who needs to market its products. instead of trying to sell something, they're trying to raise awareness about their cause, or generate donations. Therefore, they need a communication strategy like any other organization. It seems to me that, for any communication campaign to be efficient it needs to be based on a cultural trend.
Who are we targeting ? ---> Women
What do women want ? ---> Feel beautiful, confident and healthy
What is the current trend that reflects this craving for self-confidence ? Selfies.

From a communication stand point, this makes complete sense to me. Now the question is, "how is it linked to breast cancer" - And in a way, this question is relevant as there is no direct connection to the cause. but let's take another example:

How many times have we seen on TV adverts that weren't related directly to the actual products ?
Let's take the Christmas adverts. John Lewis for example, do they feature their shops in the Christmas commercials ? Nope. Why? Because it is all based on emotional connection. And this is what this whole "selfie" thing is about: "Emotional Connection". Girls are sharing content with friends. It boosts their sense of togetherness, belonging and self-confidence. Without make up, we're all equal. In the same way, we are all equal when facing health issues such as breast cancer. We share this content with other women we appreciate and love. We celebrate each other, and at the back of our mind we remember that breast cancer needs to be fought. and what the heck is wrong with that ?

3) This leads me to my third point: is it just pure narcissism ?
And again, what would be wrong with that ? What's wrong with thinking that you are beautiful ? What's wrong with thinking that your photo is worth being shared and liked by people who appreciate you? It's no news that we live in a world where the standards of beauty are well established, and we're all fighting hard every day to look "the way we should look". For once, we're celebrating all women, no matter how they look. Isn't it something positive ?
I'm sure that many of us spend time looking in the mirror thinking: "meh, fat legs, big nose, bad teeth.....ah daaaaamn...cellulite alert !". And for once, a large number of women went "sod it, i'm gonna post a picture of myself because I can", without taking any of the above into consideration. isn't that a step forward ?
What if we all started to like ourselves a little bit more rather than always thinking we're not good/pretty/clever enough ? that'd be nice wouldn't it ? Do not worry, i'm not giving that advice to you first, dear reader, i'm giving it to myself. In the world we live in, the hardest thing to do is to think that you're worth it. (i'm fighting this feeling on a daily basis).

For me this "No make up selfie" trend is a success. It's reminded us all that we need to do something about Breast Cancer, whether it's donating, getting checked, helping friends and members of our families who suffer from it, or simply talking about it with our friends. And also, it was a wonderful way to celebrate women's natural beauty and self confidence. I don't know about you, but I discovered one thing with this trend : who needs make up anyway ?

I'm not saying i'm right, and I totally respect everyone's opinion on the matter. That's just how I see it.

And so I shall include my no make up selfie.

Aaaaaaaand a pic of Emma Thompson, because  she is the reason why I feel like I should take a stand for things I believe in. WOW, it's getting emosh. (this is not related to the topic...at all. Apologies). And because her performance in Wit: The Play (about ovarian cancer) was outstanding and inspiring. Makes you stop and think for a moment.

Spice girls & Musicals - When 2 become 1

I told you i wouldn't write on there on a regular basis. But today, it looks like i have something to say. So here goes.

A few weeks ago I had the chance to see Viva Forever! the musical. For a Spice Girls hardcore fan like I was (and I still I am), it was absolutely thrilling. It feels like i'm an innocent 6 years old again, and well... this is one of the best feelings ever.

The musical is not about the story of the Spice Girls but about a girl band who is trying to become famous thanks to a talent show. the main topics are basically, friendship, loyalty, fun, fame and love...basically what the Spice Girls were about. I guess these topics are dear to any SG fan; it's quite easy to relate to the story of those 4 girls.

I've read so many reviews about the show saying that it was "appalling", "MT at its worse" and all that jazz...which might be true if you look at it from a professional point of view. It was time for me to say something good about it. There are many reasons for theatergoers & critics to hate this show, but there are also a lot of reasons to enjoy it.  I'm definitely not trying to be objective here. So this is a Spice Girls/Musicals fan's opinion on the matter.

My decision to see the show was quite improvised. I like deciding to see a show on the day, you can always use a good discount. Anyway, I was totally hyper about seeing a musical related to the Spice Girls. My mindset : these songs meant the world to the child i was. I will enjoy it. No matter what. So yes, i was totally biased and I still I am. But when you're expecting to like something you can be dramatically disappointed...which wasn't the case (thankfully). I had asked one of my best friends who has the same tastes in musicals as me what she thought of it, so that i knew what to expect. She said to me "don't expect a challenging plot....but you're going to love it !". And she was absolutely right.

Let's face it, when it comes to the story, it's not the new Les Miserables. But that's not what the show is about. The storyline is indeed quite ridiculous. But at the same time, it allows anyone to identify to it...well, to identify to at least one of the characters. Four things made the show for me :

The Songs : Obviously, if you ever listened to the Spice Girls a little bit too much like i did, you will enjoy the different versions of the songs. It's always thrilling to be able to sing along all the songs in a musical. I think, for most fans, the SG songs always take you back to a happy/carefree time. If you listen to the lyrics, the message is almost always positive. Being french, SG songs were a good way for me to start learning English at a very young age. I tried hard to understand what they were singing and i'm sure it somehow helped me get accustomed to pronunciation of words & the british accent. Now that I need to speak English everyday, i'm very grateful for it. (and i'm glad i don't make the confusion between "Thank you" and "Too much" anymore ;) ). Moreover, i really appreciate how each song is used in the evolution of the story. For the first time, i actually listened to the lyrics carefully, and in my eyes they fitted perfectly with the plot. the Goodbye/Mama mash up even brought tears to my eyes. I believe it really created beautiful mix of emotions : I could totally picture Geri leaving the group again (which broke my heart at the time....don't get me started on this, trust me, you don't want to live 1998 again !) and at the same time i was thinking about the special connection I have with my mum (which obviously made me emotional....surprising, isn't it ?).

Humour : If you like Jennifer Saunders's work, you'll probably appreciate the characters' personalities and the jokes. Unlike many critics I found the show hysterical. The Suzi/Lauren duo is "absolutely fabulous" and Minty has the be one of the #FunniestMTCharacters. The three judges' personalities cracked me up. They're so close to reality. If you ever watched a talent show, in any country, you'll see what I mean. I #HashtagLOLed all the way through the show....'cuz I can. Oh and if you don't laugh during "2 become 1"....i really reallly don't understand you.

The Cast : again, this is a very subjective point of view as you'll never find a unanimous opinion about a cast. But I found the cast very very good (overall). There's so much energy on stage, it's contagious. They make you wanna stand up, join them on stage and shake your junk (uh oh...that reminds me of something... ). Lucy Montgomery and Sally Ann Triplett's chemistry on stage is just brilliant, they are hilarious from beginning to the end, and the vocals are just as good. I should probably not say anything about Sally Dexter (Simone) as I'm clearly too biased. I adored her in Bad Girls the musical and obviously adore her in this as well. She's one of these performers who have un indescribable talent that is totally original and different from anyone else. You can't help but look at her whenever she's on stage. And that voice....so powerful and inimitable. Needless to say that Tamara Wall is ridiculously funny as Karen. That's no news, we knew she would be (Any Legally Blonde fans there ?) The four girls are great, very different from each other and they all shine in their own way. their characters have nothing to do with the Spice girls but at the same time, you could see a bit of Sporty, Posh, Baby, Scary and Ginger in each of them.

GIRL POWER! : is the word. there's not much to say about it really. It's the perfect illustration of what the Spice girls were about : Friendship, Fun, Carefreeness, Loyalty, Self-Confidence, Instinctive decisions & Ambition to conquer the world.

That's how i see it. All this made me reflect on the impact the Spice Girls had in my life. From the age of 6 to 8 i lived for the Spice Girls. (is putting Ketchup in my hair to be Ginger and begging my gran to buy me platform shoes convincing enough for you ?) and i guess they somehow helped shaping who I am now. And i'm very grateful to those five women for making my childhood unique and magical. (this is the soppy bit, sorry about that).

Call it cheesy, stupid, pointless...Stop right now, thank you very much. I love Viva Forever! And if you're trying to convince me not to....well....

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ?

PS : I had to upload that picture. Did I tell you how much I love Geri Halliwell ?....(again, don't get me started)

Two pints of lager and a packet of....tissues

Sooooo...Series 9, eh ? And it's already over ! 6 episodes only...that's not much...but theese were actually really good !..so screw the quantity, let's go for quality...First, I should probably thank the people who (illegally) put most of the episodes on YouTube...whoever you are...even if you got cought by the police...I love you.
I'll be honest, at first, like a hardcore Sherifan, I thought...erm, excuse me ? where is Janet ?...or, "but let's make a Gaz and Donna....spin off...or something"....I couldn't see Runcorn survive without the little blonde chav in her addidas tracksuits...and also without the squeaky little t*** *** called Louise. It just seemed impossible.

But then I realised....(or I grew up a bit maybe)...that I should give the new series a chance. I realised that I got really attached to Gaz and Donna during the past series, and I really wanted to know what was gonna happen next....yes, I tend to ask myself essential questions. And I thought to myself...so far all the actors in the different series have always been good...so why wouldn't the new ones be amazing too ?

Problem was : I. am. stuck. in. France....yeah, same problem over and over again...the good things generally happen across the channel for me (I do love my french friends/family...not wanting to sound like a bitch, but they know what I mean). I really wanted to be at a recording of one of the episodes...couldn't happen, OBVOUSLY...because uni sucks at timing...So I decided to wait until the episodes are broadcasted. And, between theese two thoughts...I had the chance to meet someone very special...the kind of person you don't find on the corner of any french street...the kind who person who takes over the role of Paulette in Legally Blonde The Musical. Basically...I met Natalie Casey (Donna Wilkinson). She is quite the incredible type...absolutly hilarious...genuine and adorable...and frankly one of the most talented actresses i've ever met (And i've met Audrey Tautou.....sorry, bad joke !). And she hits that note at the end of Ireland that makes me love her even more.

Back to the topic, two pints series 9. I really enjoyed the whole new series. it was really good to see Gaz & Donna again on our screens....Is there any girl (or boy, eventually) who never had a crush on Gaz ? I mean seriously....We all have to agree he is a bit of a...knob...but, a fit one ! And Will Mellor's perfect comic timing makes you cry with laughter...he is brilliant ! Natalie, for a change, is totally amazing ! I won't spoil...but get ready to bawl your eyes out....wether it's because you're laughing too much...or because...well, you'll see !
Luke Gell, (Timothy Claypole) is totally brilliant. And I really like what's happening to him in this series. The two newcomers, Cassie and Billy (Georgia Henshaw & Freddie Hogan) are fantastic...I must admit that the writers managed to create to very different new characters that fit perfectly in the story...and the choice of the cast is absolutly perfect...to sum it up...I can't to know it there's a new series coming up. Because, I will be watching it for sure !

Random fact : at one point, when Donna is "somewhere", talking to "someone " (see ? i'm no spoiler), behind that "someone", it's written "FIND MY WAY"....Janet will always been there in spirit ;)
La Question du Jour : Did you see the last series ? what did you think of it ?

Free Hugs

As part of my internship I have been asked to organise a Free Hugs event ! Which is totally amazing, given my everlasting love for hugs. Here in France, we hardly ever hug...it's true, even between close friends, we're no huggers ! Except some of my friends, who are pretty much like teddy bears....some others just hate it (they know who they are ;P). I found my love for "hugging" in London last year, why ? don't ask, you probably already know ;) I love hugging more than....life ! Hugging IS my life, I even have a personnal Serial Hugger (wonder who that would be ?) so I suppose I was the best person to organise this event.

SOOOO, I need some people to participate to it, obviously. If you are in Lyon on July 2nd, if you know someone (a kind and trustworthy hugger), who lives in the area and would join in, please let me know ASAP ! It would be quite nice to have a lot of people here...the more, the merrier ;) Don't hesitate to leave a comment, or facebook, tweet, text, or send a carrier pigeon ! Merci !

oh ! and for those who don't know what a good hug is....here is the exemple of the most perfect hug in the world ! PS : you may recognize someone ;)

Dance like it's the last night of the world

So, apparently two days ago..."the end of the world" was supposed to happen !..."pretty impressive, good to know !" as some would sing. No, don't worry about me...I didn't believe any of this. However the twitter worries and jokes were quite entertaining....the "supposed" rapture got me a tweet from Tracie Thoms...which made me questioned if I was already in heaven ?! Jesus was supposed to be back...erm...what ? Did Jesus Christ Superstar re-open, and nobody told me ? This event made me think of something...what if the world was actually ending tomorrow ? (I know you like when i'm asking rethorical questions...I feel like Plato...a bit !)  Would we know about it ? Surely nobody would tell us if the it was close...the whole economy would stop, nobody would go to work...complete anarchy, no thanks. What would happen ? Eathquakes ? Volcanos ? Shows closing on the West End ?  Megan Fox taking over as Elle Woods ?...ooo, that would be harsh ! And here is the question that is stuck in my mind..."what would I do on my last day on earth ?" then I thoughts of the different "plans" that I would make....I'd definietly try to gather as many of my friends as possible...but then they would be with their family as well...so basically...there would be an enormous reunion...and it would have to happen in London...as I can't see myself sending the last hour of my fascinating existence in Lyon...but then i'd have to convince everyone...and we'd have to go walking, as there would be no planes....I'd go get one last sherihug...probably stay there until the end....a bit like in "Little Fall of Rain"...Eponine style...(writes it down, in the to do list)...yeah, but not sure the hugger would approve of it....I'd go bungee jumping ?...oh, that's a nice once !....I'd try to get a kiss from Guillaume Canet I suppose...(no explicit content on this blog...read between the linesà)...but he would be too busy taking care of his new little baby...I'd try to see one last musical...not possible as everyone would be doing something else....I don't have many options...it looks like we all be sitting there waiting ! That would be scary.

I don't think I want to know if the world will end one day...it surely will....at one point...what about 2012 ? yes, you're right it's just a shitty film....well, to sum it up I think if the world was ending, I would like to jump in that picture (like in Mary Poppins)....I'd be sat there, with my friends, my mum, not knowing that any of this is gonna happen, just enjoying the moment, dressed like a complete freak, slightly drunk, eating some nuggets, on the corner of Shaftsbury avenue, opposite the Queens theatre....HEAVEN !

And you guys.......If the world ended tomorrow, what would you do today?

"Marcel, t'es mon champion, je te veux à moi pour la vie..."

Fate ! who would have thought that the second article on my blog would be about Marion Cotillard ?...the last blog I had was all about her...damn it...i'm back to what I was before ? Pretty much. At least for a day. I believe you've all read the BIG NEWS : Marion gave birth to a little boy called....MARCEL. If you've seen La Vie en Rose (and if it's your favourite film....join the club), does that ring any bell ?...it does, doesn't it ? Reminds you of the famous "Marcel Cerdan"...Edith Piaf's everlasting love ! I'm not sure about this name...why calling you son Marcel, when you know that people will ALWAYS make the link with one of the films you played in...I mean...it's not like she's won an Academy award for best actress in that film....or is it ? No seriously, i really don't see the point...Moreover, Marcel is not really trendy in France...If i was called Marcel, i'd have the perpetual feeling that my parents sentenced me to school death...not very nice. But anyway, who am I to judge ?

I'm really glad for Marion and Guillaume though...they are my two favourite french actor/actress. Guillaume Canet = MY EVERLASTING LOVE
I had the chance to meet Guillaume a while ago at a première. He is lovely ! And he is probably the hottest man on the planet. i've always had the biggest crush on him (you may already know that). I told him something about a new film i knew he was shooting with  Marion at that time, and he answered, "aw thanks i'm so touched"....you know me, i wanted to ask "WHERE EXACTLY ?"...Didn't get a hug though ! those french actors can be very disappointing ! But he is very very funny and quite the clever type. I've loved him since "Love me if you dare" (jeux d'enfants, for the french), and seen all his films ever since ! And his last film, as a director "the white lies" is probably one of the most realistic film I've seen in ages, absolutly fabulous ! Bascially, he is everything a man should be...and let's be honest, he married the best actress in the business.

I've been a fan of Marion for....oooh...how long now ? maybe 5 or 6 years ? she has always been my favourite french actress (and cinema actress...glabally speaking). She is by far the most talented of France and Hollywood. La Vie en Rose is my favourite film (being a fan of Edith Piaf and Marion...perfect combination). I've hardly ever seen an acting performence so moving and realistic.  She's always been an inspiration to me.(and I apologize to those who had to bear the Marion Crazyness during the Oscars)...yes i was up at 4,12 in the morning...french historical moment...when she won the academy award for best actress...I screamed and cried...(same berryperformance during the Oliviers this year ? yes indeed). Never got a Marionhug...or tweet...or whatever ! this needs to change ! (and it is not likely to)

Anyway, congratulations to both of France's finnest actors. Longue vie au petit Marcel !

I'm not sure where this methaphor's going ?!

A Blog ! There it is !
Should I start with a "Hello " or "Welcome" or "What the hell are you doing here ?"
Anyway...
So, i'm not entirely sure why i'm starting this blog, to be honest. Maybe because only the cool ones have blog, and I feel like I wanna be one of them ?! Probably right...or maybe because I have something to say ?...Well, I already say too many things on twitter anyway....Maybe because I wanna be able to read it when i'm 90 and say..."oh, did I actually think that ?"... I have no clue. but it's trendy...and if anyone is interested in reading this, then why not ?!
Now the question is..."why are you writing in english ? you're french FFS !"...well, that is precisely right ! I am french, but i've met amazing people in several countries (mainly in UK and Spain)...who live in different areas (Hola, Hello, Ni Hao...and all that jazz)...and I want them to be able to read...my life ! (how Michelle Booth does that sound, eh ?)...nah, i wanna share things with all of you...whoever you are ! If you are reading this :
1) you must be a very good friend
2) you probably have something better to do

Oh and, I think I need to apologize in advance for this :
- Mistakes : as english is not my mother tongue, please be kind.
- Musical Theatre : yes, I talk far too much about this topic
- Articles in french : complicated topics need to be discussed in french...(or when I can't be arsed)
- Sherifandom : you'll find out sooner or later...but what can I say...it's not my fault, she's such an inspiration !
- Boredom : I can't promise you that this blog will be interesting. I have no idea if i'm even gonna update it...*creating suspense*
- Craziness : I. am. mad. but as a legend I know would say "in a nice way" !

So that's, it for now.....YaaaY, my first article....*feels proud*

pic : the first thing i got when i arrived in London...the day when my life actually started
